People ask me all the time if I mess up pin tests on purpose. The answer is that no, I do not, and thanks so much for assuming that no one could possibly mess things up as badly as I do. Really gives a girl confidence.
I do admit to sometimes picking pins that just look like they’ll fail, though. I saw this one for natural pancakes using only a banana and 2 eggs, and thought it couldn’t possibly work. No way.
Plus when I pinned it, I got lots of comments like, “These were gross, yo.” And, “These do not taste like pancakes at all.” I was, in fact, this close to not even trying it because, you know, everyone already figured it would fail, right? But then I had the opportunity to arrange food like cock-and-balls, and I couldn’t pass that up.
As I worked, I became more and more skeptical of this actually working. I mean, come on, this is ridiculous.
And then the banana would not smoosh properly. I guess it wasn’t ripe enough, but I bought the ripest one at the grocery store, guys. The longest part of this whole process was the banana mushing.
This pancake griddle thingie was on our wedding registry. I’ve used it maybe two or three times, because I am really bad at pancakes and it pisses me off greatly when I can’t flip them properly.
But in this case, I decided the occasion called for it.
Alas, I am still no good at flipping pancakes. This is not the fault of the pancakes.
I really, really did not want to try these, guys. I mean, they look disgusting. They smell not-great. And I made them, so they’ve got that going against them, too.
But I tried a bite, chewed it carefully, did not die or gag… and slowly I realized that these are not that bad!
Are they delicious, carb-filled, light and fluffy pancakes? Well, no. But they’re not a half-bad substitute. I added a little syrup (which I guess makes them not exactly natural, but whatever) and they tasted even closer to real pancakes.
You really have no reason to believe me about this, other than the fact that I have always told you true before if something is completely revolting. It’s possible that my expectations were just so, so low that anything would have been better than what I was expecting, but I really think these things are not that bad.
And around here, Not That Bad is a fucking win.
