Hot Toddy

0 Posted by - August 24, 2012 - Food & Drink

This will be a quickie because I am sickie.

Ya like that? Maybe I’ll start doing puns next. Nah, I’ll leave that to Harto.

Where was I? Sorry, brain is foggy from congestion and cold medicine.

Yes, right, I am sick. And I therefore have an actual excuse to drink whiskey. Rock the fuck on. I found a recipe on Pinterest for a hot toddy.

Image from A Cup of Jo

Except Joanna Goddard is a lot cuter when she is sick than I am when I am sick. You don’t have to take my word for it.

Also, I read the recipe wrong, so instead of putting a little bit of whiskey, honey, and lemon in a mug and then pouring hot water over it, like you should do, I mixed equal parts of whiskey, honey, and lemon and then microwaved it.

I have a lot of experience microwaving honey and lemon. You shouldn’t worry.

You maybe should worry that I used the half lemon left over from the blackhead remover experiment. And also that I was almost out of honey because apparently you use honey in every at-home beauty thing ever, like the miracle mask, the afore-mentioned DIY body-sugaring, and the also afore-mentioned blackhead remover. Except this time, I’m actually supposed to ingest it. HA.

Also, in case you were wondering, half a lemon is not enough. You may have to supplement. But it’s ok because it says “real” on the bottle.

While you are microwaving your hot toddy, be sure to get distracted and take pictures of your dog. You might have to do weird things to get her to sit still long enough for a picture, like make her a piece of toast and then feed it to her little bits at a time.

And then you may forget that you should probably be watching your hot toddy in the microwave, lest it boil and make a huge– oh hell.

Anyway, it tasted pretty awesome, despite lack of boiling water, probably because I just really like whiskey anyway, so yeah, take this review as you will. I did not get better from drinking it. But I certainly did not get worse.

I’m not even sick, but I’m pretty sure I’m gonna go get some whiskey.

Your version (sans water) is stronger, so therefore better in my eyes. Next time, try the easy version: American Honey + water (or not) + lemon. Save your honey for your hilarious beauty treatments.Hope you feel better soon!

I skip the lemon part and make them with Lemon Zinger tea

So is that starve a fever, drown a cold with as much alcohol as you can possible pour down your throat?  ‘Cause I’m all over my next cold and stocking up on liquor.

ok no one should look that cute when they’re sick i bet joanna goddard was actually quite healthy in that picture as she is annoyingly adorable there. and normally i like her.anyway, i thought of you and your blog today when I was teaching a chameleon art project I found on pinterest and it wasn’t too bad if you give up on the goddamn glue sticks and just staple those little bastards together (the paper chameleons obviously not the children)

The flaw I see here is that you are cooking off some of the alcohol.  I recommend adding the whiskey after the microwave.

My husband’s sinus relief drink of choice: 6 oz apple cider (microwave til hot), add 1-2 shots E&J Brandy, and 1 Tbsp honey. Stir and drink. He swears by them. I’m thinking bcs it’s the only time of year he drinks. lol

Love the pictures, especially the distracting dog. Feel better soon! My favorite sicky-time beverage is Celestial Seasonings Echinacea wellness tea, I’ll try boozing it up next time ^_^

That is ny favorite sicky treatment.. I generally only microwave the honey and lemon though so as not to risk disrupting the alcohol content in the whiskey by heating it.
