Marnier Chocolate Bonbon

Do you ever want to drink your feelings? Today my feelings taste like chocolate. Lots and lots and lots of chocolate. So I went for the best of both worlds: alcohol with chocolate in it. Enter the Marnier Chocolate Bonbon:

This recipe calls for some fancy shit. And you probably already know how that’s going to go, since we’re talking about me. Guys, I can’t even manage for-real hot chocolate. My version comes out of a Keurig.

I do have Grand Marnier (but I am not above using Triple Sec in an emergency, people, don’t get me wrong). Fancy tequila and hand-whipped cream? Fuck no.

Also in the “no” category is an Irish coffee or small wine glass. So since I was working with a big wine glass, I decided to make mine a double. I’m all about the problem-solving. (No kidding. That shit’s on my resume and everything.)

So what does it taste like? Like my sweet Aunt Bippy kicked you in the teeth. Ok, well. I don’t actually have a sweet Aunt Bippy. Or a mean Aunt Bippy, come to that. No such person exists, sweet or mean. But if I did have an Aunt Bippy, she would be the kind of person who makes hot chocolate for her guests from scratch and then hand-whips some damn cream, because nothing is too good for you little poops, but then she has a minor and temporary psychotic break and Chuck Norrises her foot right into your mouth for making fun of her Tarot card collection.

Everytime I’m around here, I see a link for weight watchers online and one about quitting drinking. WHAT IS THE INTERNET TRYING TO TELL ME??

I know this is a “testing” site but any chance you could include the recipe in the posts somehow?

This link just leads to a drink site for me and I can’t see the recipe anywhere and have no clue what you substituted or what the actual drink was supposed to be.

I’m not saying cut the links completely but you never know how long they’re gonna last so it’s better to include some kind of reference information in the post itself.

Went on the link and behoooold:

      Chic Cocktails

      Marnier Chocolate Bonbon
      1 oz. Grand Marnier
1/2 oz. Don Julio Anejo Tequila
      3 oz. hot chocolate
      Layer of fresh cream

Combine Grand Marnier, tequila, and hot chocolate in an Irish coffee (or small wine) glass. Layer 1/2 inch of hand-whipped cream over the top.

Same experience as Nana here. I clicked the link and it brought up the recipe.

Hm, I just tried the link and it worked ok for me too. Thanks for posting the recipe, Nana! I was about to come over here and do it myself. 🙂

Thanks, my point though was that it could be a good idea to include it anyway since somewhere down the line the links will stop working and anyone reading through old posts will be just as confused.
(I think the link issue for me was due to blocked scripts btw but that’s a different matter.)

I think Jose is pretty fancy. Of course I tend to drink from the bottle so what do I know?

I am hopeful that Aunt Bippy becomes a regular at cocknails. Where you been hiding this awesome lady? We should all be so lucky to sit at her feet (but at a safe distance) and learn…

I’m trying to imagine what tequila and chocolate would taste like mixed together. The closest I can come up with is vomiting after a night of margaritas and leftover halloween candy. Blech!

It DOES sound like an odd combo, but I can assure you as a bartender, this would be delicious. I like to mix hot chocolate powder into my coffee, a dash of cinnamon and a shot of tequila, with a nice dollop of whipped cream on top… wowzers. It’s a drunken-mexican-mocha-piñata-mouth party. 🙂

Hold the phone!! Did you just suggest mixing coffee, chocolate, cinnamon and tequila???? That’s…brilliant. Actually brilliant. I need this in my life.

Totes McGoats. I like to use a nice reposado or anejo tequila. The nutty, caramelly, vanilla-y undertones to the tequila really meld and compliment the other flavors.

Oh god. Just flashed back to the first time I got drunk. Cheap cheap very cheap vodka and diet chocolate soda. I think I’ll skip this pin.

Hmm..I’d be curious to try it. I’d have to pass on the whipped cream. There’s just something grotesque about mixing dairy and liquor together.

    • ashley December 8, 2013 - 2:34 am Reply

Hahahahahaa yes! Adding dairy to liquor is just daring your body to say fuck you sometime soon after drinking it!

        You got it, sister.

Is this why White Russians always make me ill, even if I only drink one?

  • Michelle Par December 8, 2013 - 4:04 am Reply

Tequila? Uh uh. I like the Grand Marnier, and with chocolate I have other ideas. Vodka, Frangelico or amaretto. Maybe even Kahulah (damn it, I can’t spell it tonight and autocorrect won’t help me). Bailey’s or other Irish cream is also always a good choice. on the other hand, while I usually don’t like peppermint, with hot chocolate, peppermint schnapps and banana liqueur is a really good way to go.

I kept reading this as “Chocolate Bourbon,” and while normally your substitutions don’t bother me, from bourbon to tequila is a pretty big jump. Then realized it said “bonbon” and thought, “damn, I must drink too much.”
