I’m doing a 5-minute updo today. Supposedly you can do it in 5 minutes. Also supposedly, you can wear it in public. The jury is still out on both counts.
Here’s the original tutorial!

I actually think it turned out pretty cute!
Intentionally creating knots in your hair seems like a GREAT idea
I just checked out the original video and I’m pretty sure yours ended up looking better than whatever she was doing.
I think you’re right, the idea is cute, but when you get right down to it, it’s just a mess with a lot of bobby pins.
That was a shitload of bobby pins! But the results weren’t too bad.
That actually ended up looking kind of cute. My motto with updo’s is “Just add more bobby pins.” It can fix pretty much anything. I never really trust updo tutorials online though. These people always seem to have three arms and eyes in the back of their head. I can barely coordinate my arm movement when I’m looking over my shoulder in the mirror, let alone tie knots. Yikes.

The original tutorial ended up to be a horrible mess. What a bad idea.
I think yours looks a lot better than the tutorial, but the thought of all those bobby pins is making my scalp hurt! My hair is just about the same length as yours and my favorite quick updo is made by using those spiral shaped pins. I can twist and pin it up in seconds. I think Goody makes them.
Even though she has red hair, and had a hairdresser dude standing off to the side of her giving her the evil eye, the other woman’s result is about the same as yours.
I can make my hair look that unkempt without tying any knots.
It looks cute, but yeah, lots of bobby pins.
I’ve just tried this – it is sooooo hard tying a knot in hair. My arms ache from trying over and over.
The original tutorial did not make it look all that easy and the end result for her looked like crap.
I hate bobby pins. HATE them!
But I think it turned out pretty cool, actually, despite it all.
Is nobody going to say anything about how she had to question her efficiency, I’m almost sure that’s what made the whole video.
try doing this with wet hair. it’s much easier, there are no flyaways, and after some hairspray you end up using much less bobby pins.
