T-shirt Infinity Scarf

0 Posted by - January 11, 2012 - DIY & Crafts, Women's Apparel

I really can’t get behind this whole trend of making one item of clothing into another item of clothing. Shirts are not skirts, people. Also, it stands to reason, then, that t-shirts are not scarves.

Oh, but according to Pinterest, they are.

Green infinity scarf

In fact, you can make three different kinds of scarves out of t-shirts. On a morning news show, even. Who could resist? Not I.

For this project, I raided the closet for a t-shirt. The only one I was permitted to use was a shrunken, weirdly stretched, way pitted gray shirt. So not a cute lime green or pink one. Armpit gray. Awesome.

I followed the directions on cutting.

The dog helped. Probably because the shirt smelled a little ripe.

And then I followed the directions on stretching.

No one mentioned anything about a tag, but there was one. So I ended up with a loopy armpit gray thing with a tag on it.

But, hey, if you believe teh internets, you can just fancy it up with a pretty brooch (whatever the hell a brooch is) and all will be well, right?

People, you know what? If you make a scarf out of a t-shirt, it looks like you made a scarf out of a t-shirt. I’m not sure this should surprise you, but I’m just sayin’.

Fighting the urge to put my hand into the screen to tuck in that label.

Oh. I just realized that what I thought was a brooch is the tag. Um… great job!

LOL! I’ve been wondering about the popularity and excitement about these and thought “Don’t they LOOK like a scarf made from a t-shirt?”

I think they’re really cute. IF YOU GET THEM TO LOOK RIGHT. I have spent a small fortune on trying to and haven’t succeeded yet. There was ONE time I thought it turned out well and I wore it around and I felt like the biggest red ass because I felt like people KNEW I was wearing a t-shirt around my neck.
    I kept telling myself ‘but it’s new…?’ Didn’t help.

OMG this is hysterical for sure! I don’t get this fad either…LOL Gawd your sarcasm is just like mine! I love you!!! Hahahah

I am so glad I read this post before I attempted this at home.  Seriously, what was I thinking?  Scarves do not magically stop being made of t shirt material when you make them into scarves.  Is it too soon to say I love you?

I’ve actually done this a bunch of times. If you use a seamless tee, it looks like the American Apparel ones that are like $30 or some shit. The tee has to be reeeeally big too, or it just looks like a big scrap of fabric. I got mine at CVS when they had giant colored tees for $2 each.
