Um. How do you get the marker off your nails???

    • Pintester September 25, 2013 - 1:40 pm Reply

I assume it comes off with nail polish remover, but I haven’t verified that yet.

I feel that this could be the fuck up part of the test that everyone is waiting for with baited breath.

  • Rae Ann Gallati September 25, 2013 - 1:42 pm Reply

Did you put a polish topcoat on? I’m thinking otherwise it might scratch off.

  • DigitalChick September 25, 2013 - 1:48 pm Reply

It looks great! But I, too, am worried about how it will come off. Please report back. Also, is it any easier or cheaper than using gold nail polish? Just curious…

I am reporting that the pedicure still looks good after running and jumping a whole bunch at the gym. (In fact, the pedicure looks better than I do. I’m kind of a mess after all that.) I did put a top coat on it.

Thanks for the update. I accidentally dropped my gold leaf pen in the toilet last November and was so mad that I haven’t bought another one. Maybe I will now.

… Now I sort of want to gold leaf my toilet.

          • DigitalChick September 25, 2013 - 11:26 pm

No you don’t… I had to fish it out with my hand ’cause it was at my daughter’s school and I didn’t want to be the one to clog the toilet up with a gold leaf pen.

I think I would have rathered you hunt down the gold leaf paper, hearing your rants while pins are messy and too much work make the videos worth while!

  • graceatwood September 25, 2013 - 2:04 pm Reply

haha, this was my project! thanks for trying it!

I just have to say how disappointed I am that there was no goldschlager involved in this video. If there’s no alcohol, fire, or dick jokes, what’s even the point? 😛 Please make a video where you drink a lot of goldschlager and use the pen to gold leaf other stuff!

  • SuperCutePetContest September 25, 2013 - 2:26 pm Reply

That looks way easier than using nail polish! That’s awesome!

  • Allie September 25, 2013 - 4:30 pm Reply

Very sad about the lack of the cock in this episode of Cocknails. I agree with Daintynymph (BTW, cool name) that goldschlager should have been involved. Boozy lemonade would have also been acceptable.

  • Evan the girl September 25, 2013 - 4:30 pm Reply

Where is the cock part of the cock-nails? You could have rocked out a James Bond style martini!

  • Sandi Boyd September 25, 2013 - 5:33 pm Reply

It looks really pretty! And dammit, a pen looks a shit-ton easier than regular nail polish!!Does it dry fast? Having said that, I am a little worried…no balls comments on your pom-pom test, now no drinking on a nail test! Although, this wasn’t actually titled “Cocknails” so maybe it wasn’t supposed to have a drinkie-poo? It’s more fun with drinking and belching 🙂

I actually tried this a few weeks ago but with for real silver leaf. Like the kind that blows away if you try to do it with your fan on. :/
After finally getting it to work I went to bed and woke up the next morning with smushed bed print nails and decided it was way too damn ugly to keep on and took it off with a fricking ton of nail polish remover (I basically had to scrape it off)… And it had stained my nails. Like an almost glow stick green colour. It’s super nasty and unless there’s a magic nail de-staining trick I don’t know about, I basically have to wait until it grows out. Not cute.
I have no idea if this was because I used silver leaf as opposed to gold, but just a warning if you’re keen to try it. You may have hideous nails just in time for Halloween!

      Try whitening toothpaste. Seriously.

I think there’s a PinTest about whitening your toenails with toothpaste.

  • Von September 26, 2013 - 4:32 am Reply

Hehe, you finally have a win, and now everyone is worried about how you undo it and get the polish off.

  • Samantha Hussey September 26, 2013 - 8:11 am Reply

My only question is, is this pen toxic. I’m only wondering because I don’t want to catch dead body disease at a wedding I’m going to next month. At least I’d have cute toes for them to attach the tag to though, right?

    • Dar Hamill September 26, 2013 - 8:17 am Reply

This comment is a winner…dead body disease. Totally stealing that!

  • Grace September 26, 2013 - 9:30 am Reply

I find those pens always leak and explode gold all over the place… a little like an inappropriate cock. I wish that had happened to you for the corresponding cock jokes. You are way better than I am at them, and apparently at controlling the flow.

    • Lisa G September 28, 2013 - 10:39 pm Reply

I think if cocks exploded gold my husband might get a lot more action.

  • Unfit Parent September 26, 2013 - 9:50 am Reply

That music was crazy. It was like James Bond and Ron Jeremy were having a sleepover. I too am disappointed by the lack of cock.

  • rebeccajo September 26, 2013 - 9:55 am Reply

Did you really use a marker on your nails? … wow… i’m waiting for the follow up video to see if it came off…
So there’s a million dollar idea right there – polish in a marker form – easy to apply!!!

Let’s talk about something for a hot second. The nails look good and all, but really? You managed that cute hairstyle without showing us how you did it? I’m sure there’s a great story behind it. Share? Please…?

  • Franziska Külbel September 26, 2013 - 10:34 am Reply

I really like your hair in this video… but you do know that you’re not supposed to have nifty hairstyles unless you tested them on this blog, right? Or… is it… this one? http://pintester.com/2012/11/modern-bun/ If so, it looks much better than on your first try!

  • Michelle September 26, 2013 - 10:50 am Reply

Please let us know if it comes off. it is does, I’m just going to buy (what is basically) paint pens to paint my nails.

Also, is it toxic? I never actually paid that much attention.

Eeks! It’s says prolonged skin exposure is bad. Has your nervous system shut down yet?

Hope not. I like your blog, and you dying would kinda suck.

    🙂

  • Mollie Moses September 28, 2013 - 10:13 am Reply

Hurray on the win! I think the toxicity of the gold leaf pen (if it’s anything like any other paint pen) is only due to the fumes, which go away pretty quickly. SKIN exposure (i.e. painting yourself like a Bond girl from GOLDFINGER) is not recommended, but then neither is skin exposure to nail polish (ever think about that, girly-girls??). Nails are not skin, technically. So paint all the nails you want.

As for removal, acetone or alcohol is great. Works like a charm.

REAL gold leafing is, as you say, expensive, and a royal PITA to work with. I would not advise it, especially if you are on a budget.I tried leafing my fingernails once, way before there were digital cameras and computers to capture and share my results. Suffice it to say that the process was tedious and unsatisfactory, not to mention the gold was not as shiny as I had expected. I think you hit on the right method.

this is insanely cool. i must try it as a french tip. (but its 10:30 at night. seriously, WHY can the art and craft shop not be open 24 hrs so i can gold leaf my nails??)

    • BOH1066 September 30, 2013 - 4:36 pm Reply

i usually don’t have time to look for fun things online until late night, either. there definitely should be a 24/7 arts&crafts store.

  • Machelle September 30, 2013 - 2:41 am Reply

That was hilarious! I loved it. 🙂

Thanks for testing the pen. I am off to dig up the silver and copper paint pens I picked up several weeks ago for my GISHWHES poster…lol. I hope mine turn out just as well. 🙂

    • Machelle October 2, 2013 - 1:38 am Reply

It definitely doesn’t last very long on fingernails, in case you were wondering…lol.

  • BOH1066 September 30, 2013 - 4:34 pm Reply

for people concerned with toxicity, really? it’s fingernails. not skin. think about the chemicals in regular nail polish. you wouldn’t paint that on your skin, either, would you? also, you could put a clear basecoat on prior to using the paint pen. in addition to the application of a clear topcoat to make the pedi more durable.
