Lace Tiara

Is there anyone on this earth who does not need a lace tiara? I submit to you, no.

I mean, sure, they look cuter on kids, but grown-ass people need crowns sometimes too, yo.

So I decided to make one. For me. So there.

This, of course, required a lot more lace than a cute little kid crown…

The instructions said to stiffen the lace with ModPodge or fabric stiffener. I had some homemade ModPodge so I decided to give that a try…

The instructions also said to “blot” up the extra, but when I blotted it, there wasn’t much left…

And after a few hours, it was not stiff at all. “I will make you stiff!” cried I (that’s what she said), and so I repeated the ModPodge and also sprayed it with spray starch. (Because, really, I never use it for ironing so I might as well use it for something.)

I had also carefully followed the directions and put the whole thing on wax paper, but it turns out that glue (which is basically what ModPodge is) sticks to wax paper. Whodathunk?

Luckily, I was able to carefully peel it off the lace.

I left it to further stiffen overnight, which it did not do, but I was in a hurry and figured it was good enough. Also, I didn’t feel like hauling out my glue gun, so stapler to the rescue.

And maybe this whole tiara thing wasn’t my greatest idea…

But hell if I’m not gonna let my freak flag fly. Honey, I look good in a crown.

It’s too bad that your lace did not stiffen overnight. My husband does not have that problem. But like you, I am also in a hurry in the mornings, so too bad for him.

My dentist said I needed a crown, and I was all “I KNOW, right?”…. is still one of my favorites. I say anytime you can get away with wearing a tiara, do it! I sing in a women’s acapella group where the winners get to wear a sparkly crown. I’m in it for the crown, not gonna’ lie.

Are your glasses from Zenni? I was eyeing those last night. (Get it? Eyeing? Hur.)

There is a product called, I shit you not, “Stiffy” that is great for stiffening fabrics. That might be a better choice for others trying this. I’ve used it to turn cheese cloth into 3-D stand-up ghosts.

Not to mention, a product called Stiffy? Come on. That’s comic gold right there.

I was like 7 when my mom got a bottle of it for mother/daughter halloween crafting & I couldn’t figure out why she kept snickering & nodding at it with the other moms.

The tiara was way cute on you! You just need to add some bling, but something better than the flower on the original pin. Oh, and Moriarty!! Only, can you use a gif of Sherlock next time you talk about making things stiff?

I spent an inordinate amount of time finding this for you. 😉
